CBSAP - A powerful storm system took aim at the Gulf Coast on Tuesday, spawning a tornado that downed utility lines and left more than a million people without power. An EF-1 tornado struck a Houston suburb early Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. High winds and severe weather battered Houston and other parts of Texas Thursday night.

Four people were killed in the storm, according to local officials. The victims were identified as two men and two women. One of the victims was found in a car that was crushed by a tree. The other three victims were found in homes that were destroyed by the tornado.

More than 1 million people were without power in Texas as of Wednesday morning. The majority of the outages were in the Houston area. Utility crews are working to restore power, but it could be several days before everyone has their power back.

The storm also caused significant damage to property. Homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed by the tornado and high winds. The damage is estimated to be in the millions of dollars.

The National Weather Service is urging people to be aware of the dangers of severe weather. If you see a tornado warning, take shelter immediately.
