Car Crash Injures Six in Caianello, Caserta Province
Six people were injured in a car crash in Caianello, Caserta province, on Tuesday evening.
The accident occurred on the Via Appia, near the town of Capua. A car and a van collided head-on, causing both vehicles to spin off the road.
The six occupants of the vehicles were all taken to hospital, where they are being treated for their injuries. The most seriously injured person is a 25-year-old man, who is in a critical condition.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but police believe that it may have been caused by one of the drivers falling asleep at the wheel.
The road was closed for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene. Traffic was diverted through the town of Caianello.
The accident is the latest in a series of serious crashes on the Via Appia in recent months. In May, three people were killed in a head-on collision near the town of Sparanise.
The Via Appia is one of the busiest roads in the Caserta province, and it has a history of accidents. In 2018, there were more than 100 accidents on the road, resulting in 15 deaths.
The local authorities are urging drivers to be careful when driving on the Via Appia, and to obey the speed limits. They are also calling on the government to invest in safety measures on the road.
